In narrative writing, irrelevant details, or extra information that is not really important, can distract the reader from the main idea. In this middle grades worksheet, Narrative Writing: Removing Irrelevant Details, students will read six narrative paragraphs on different topics, crossing out the sentence that distracts from the main story in each one. This activity is a great way to give middle schoolers practice analyzing and evaluating the structure of narrative writing, while also helping learners hone their own narrative writing skills by studying examples and nonexamples.
