In nonfiction writing, a formal tone helps to establish the writer as a trustworthy authority on the subject. In this writing worksheet, Writing With a Formal Tone, students will first review examples of informal language to avoid. Then they will read sentences written with an informal tone before rewriting them using more formal language.
